A short tail of our first family pet(s)!

Wrapped up and ready to go!

It has always been on the cards to get a family pet since I can remember. Chris and I have both grown up with family dogs, so it would have been nice to have a family canine companion, but… there’s always a but!

The kids are still small and life is too busy to give a dog the family home it deserves, so we’ve opted for the relatively simple and serene fish to keep the children occupied and impart some sense of responsibility!

Fish Market

The area Chris found by chance, close to Hangzhong road station in the Minhang district of Shanghai.

It wasn’t long until we found the colourful options of fishes we’d like to re-home!

Making new friends

No day is complete without making new friends along the way. The little girl and. boy were so sweet and friendly.

Someone is very happy!

Mission complete

We chose 6 little fishes which was the nice and single part. Armed with some food and a temporary home, the plan was now to find a larger tank which some homely interior comforts. Hopefully the kids will decide on the names of our new fishes before day’s out.

They certainly enjoyed themselves as always!

Meilong Flower & Bird Market (also sells a beautiful array of fish)

Part two of the journey involved travelling sans children to Meilong Flower and Bird Market 梅陇花鸟市场 near Longli Road.

Heading out to another part of Mining on a frosty bright December Morning!
Decisions, decisions! Local shopkeeper helps me decide on fish tank paraphernalia.

After lots of searching and Chris’ enjoyment of haggling, we acquired a new home along with a few new buddies to join the original six now named Joy, Xiao Mi, Xiao Xiao, Oliver, Yoyo and Albert!

Buying our new pets are like expanding our family! Never knew having fish and learning to care for them would be so much fun for adults, let alone the kids!
