Well I’m sure we are not the only ones but we celebrated a lockdown birthday this April- lucky birthday number 8!

The number 8 in Chinese culture is lucky so we’re feeling super grateful and fortunate for everyone being safe and healthy despite being unable to celebrate it in the way our little one truly deserves.

The upside to this situation-  is that she gets to celebrate it again (it’s her birthday day ‘season’) in style which will coincide with our eventual release back into the ‘real world.’ So in some ways, it’s a celebration we are all looking forward to!

So of course we had not prepared a month in advance with supplies to make a cake! We had sugar, butter and eggs but not the vital ingredient of flour. It’s funny that flour in lockdown is like gold dust (in the same ways that toilet paper, carrots, and cola are used as currency)!

Luckily, I found a cake mix for fairy cakes. So we tried our hand at adding some eggs and oils to make that cake! Our daughters love cake and birthday cakes even more!!

We had a wonderful, messy and fun time making cakes exactly the way we always make them- imperfectly perfect!  They were tasty despite no candle or party in sight!

We had a pancake (premixed) filled breakfast, the family phone calls and the online school day filled with references to the birthday girl who wore her crown with honour! Lucky number 8!!!!
